New Presiding Judge and Assistant Presiding Judge Announced

Fairfield, California – The Superior Court of California, County of Solano is pleased to
announce the confirmation of the Honorable Robert S. Bowers as the incoming Presiding Judge
of the Court and the election of the Honorable Wendy G. Getty as the incoming Assistant
Presiding Judge beginning January 1, 2022.
Judge Donna L. Stashyn, current Presiding Judge, said, “It has been an honor to serve as
Presiding Judge over the last two years. Our court has been challenged by the terrible COVID
pandemic, but we persevered thanks to our great judges, CEO Brian Taylor, and dedicated
staff. I am ready to pass the gavel to Judge Bowers who has been an integral part of our
leadership team, and invaluable over the last two years. Not only will Judge Bowers be an
excellent Presiding Judge, Judge Getty will be a true asset as Assistant Presiding Judge. I am
confident that this new leadership team will serve our court and community well, and with
Judge Bowers, incoming Presiding Judge, commented, “It’s an honor and a privilege to serve
our community as Presiding Judge of the Superior Court of Solano County during the next two
years. I am very much looking forward to guiding the Court forward through the post pandemic
era and assisting the Court in meeting the demands of the public after such a lengthy, trying
period. Fortunately, under Judge Stashyn’s leadership, we were able to provide access to the
public throughout the pandemic at reduced levels. It is now incumbent upon the Court to move
forward and expand the public access to justice throughout the County. Our citizen’s deserve
nothing less.”
Judge Bowers earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Long Island University, Southampton
in 1980 and his Juris Doctorate from Georgetown University Law Center in 1987. After law
school he joined the US Army as an active duty JAGC officer initially defending soldiers in
Courts Martials overseas. Upon returning stateside after Operation Desert Storm, he served as
a prosecutor at Fort Ord, CA. Leaving active duty and moving to Solano County in 1994 to
practice law, he joined the District Attorney’s Office in 1998. In 2003, he was appointed to the
bench by Governor Gray Davis. Judge Bowers has served in Juvenile, Civil and Criminal
assignments. He has served as the Court’s Supervising Judge for Criminal and Supervising
Judge of the Vallejo Branch Court.
Judge Getty earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California, Davis in 1989
and her Juris Doctorate from Santa Clara University School of Law in 1992. She was an
associate with Kronick, Moskovitz, Tiedemann & Girard from 1992 to 1997. She served as
Deputy County Counsel for Solano County from 1997 to 2000. She was promoted to Assistant
County Counsel in 2000 and served in that position until appointed as a Judge by Governor
Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2006. Judge Getty has served in Family, Criminal and Civil
assignments. She has served as Supervising Criminal Judge and is now serving as the Court’s
Supervising Civil Judge
