Court Reporter (full or part-time) – To read the job announcement and to apply, click the link below:

Finder’s Fee: Any court employee who refers a court reporter candidate to the Court for employment is eligible to receive a finder’s fee if the following occur:

  1. Current court employee informs Court HR that they are recommending a candidate.
  2. Court reporter candidate identifies the referring employee, to Court HR, at the time the application is submitted
  3. Court reporter applicant must be hired for full-time or part-time (.5 or greater) position.
  4. Court reporter must pass probation.
  5. Court employee recommending a court reporter who is hired for a full-time position will receive $2,500 the first pay period after the reporter starts employment and an additional $2,500 when the reporter passes probation.
  6. Court employee recommending a court reporter who is hired for a part-time position (.5 or greater) will receive $1,250 the first pay period after the reporter starts employment and an additional $1,250 when the reporter passes probation.

Selection & Hiring

Employment lists are established through an examination process. The examination may include written and oral questions. Candidates must be successful in each part of the examination. The Court Executive Officer may interview and consider for an appointment the top ten available candidates for each opening. A probation period is the final part of the selection process for most positions.

At the time of appointment to a position, candidates are required to successfully complete a background check and required to execute an oath of allegiance to the United States and the State of California. All employees must submit proof of lawful eligibility to work in the United States.

Most positions require that candidates successfully complete a probationary period of twelve months.

About The Court

The Superior Court of California, County of Solano, employs about 215 people. Court employees support twenty-three judicial officers located in both Fairfield and Vallejo. Employees may be required to work in either location. Court employees are subject to the Trial Court Employment Protection and Governance Act and are not covered by Civil Service Rules.

Salary Schedules

The starting salary is ordinarily the first-rate shown on the announcement. After satisfactory completion of approximately twelve months of Court service, a wage increase may be authorized. Thereafter, further increases are possible upon completion of satisfactory service at one-year intervals, up to the maximum step. Longevity pay is available after 10 years of service. Some positions may be only a single pay rate and not a range.

Unrepresented Classifications

Holidays & Vacations

Full-time employees receive fourteen paid holidays per year and accrue vacation based on the number of completed service hours. The rate is approximately ten days to start, increasing to fifteen days after 6,240 hours, seventeen and one-half days after 10,400 hours, twenty-one days after 20,800 hours and twenty-two days after 41,600 hours of service.

Sick Leave

Full-time employees accumulate twelve sick leave days per year. Part-time employees accrue sick leave pro-rata.

Retirement

Court employees receive retirement benefits through the Public Employees’ Retirement System (PERS), under the County of Solano’s contract. The specific plan depends on the employee’s hire date and the rules under the Public Employees Pension Retirement Act (PEPRA). The plans have reciprocity with all State PERS and County 1937 Act Retirement System agencies. Employees also participate in Social Security.

Health Benefits

The Court offers medical, dental and vision insurance coverage to employees and their dependents. There are ten medical plans, two dental plans and one vision plan available. The Court makes a substantial contribution toward insurance premiums.

Employee Assistance Program

Employees and their dependents may use this program for up to six visits per incident per year at no cost to the employee. The services provided are completely confidential.
